10 September 2005 - New York City, NY - Ramonita Rosa (L) and daughter, 4 year-old Ariana, wait for their bus under a shelter carrrying a poster alerting New-Yorkers to hurricane preparedness in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, USA, 10 September 2005. The campaign, which was planned by the Office of Emergency Management long before Katrina hit southern states, went up across town during the first days of September. The zones at highest risk include lower Manhattan, Brooklyn's Coney Island, the Rockaways in Queens and the perimeter of Staten Island. Hurricane season in New York is from August to October, when waters along the East Coast are warmer. The city's worst hit, in 1938, caused more than 600 deaths. Photo Credit: David Brabyn.
