Muslims Slaughter Sheep for Aid El Kebir
Every year in France around 120,000 sheep are slaughtered to celebrate the muslim festivity Eid ul-Adha, or Aid-el-Kebir.
The lack of organized slaughter facilities led many families to carry out the ritual illegally in their private homes.
In 2004, a temporary slaughterhouse was set up in Pantin. Families could pick a sheep, pay for it, observe the ritual slaughter and take away the carcass.
